questies: the free 55-minute focus timer
Questies (questies.app) is a free 55-minute focus timer built by Paul Heldt, the architect of Main Character Saga. One Questie = one focused 55-minute sprint. Run one a day and your Slay Day streak grows. Run them for a few weeks and it shows you your power zone — the day and hour you do your best work.
It requires no account, no email, and no signup. Your data stays on your device. It's free forever — not free-trial free, not freemium free. Free.
free forever · no account · your data stays yours
why free? why no email? what's the catch?
There isn't one. And I know how that sounds.
This is usually the part where you trade your email for a "free gift," then spend three months rage-deleting last chance!! emails. The whole influencer playbook runs on it. I think it's gross.
So: no email. No account. No retargeting pixel wearing a trench coat. Your focus data lives on your device, and the optional sync is encrypted end-to-end — we couldn't read your data if we wanted to.
If you use Questies and think, "okay, this is the shit — what else does this guy make?" — then Main Character Saga is right there, and I'd be honored. And if you never spend a cent? Use it forever with my blessing. We're sovereign beings around here.
— Paul Heldt, architect of MCS & Questies
what's in the timer
The 55-minute Questie
One focused sprint, drift-proof to the second. Long enough for deep work, short enough to win. Space to start, R to reset.
Slay Day streaks
One Questie a day keeps the streak alive. 💎 Diamonds for days, 🗻 mountains for sprints — momentum you can see.
Focus sounds
Isochronic focus pulses, six solfeggio frequencies, and deep brown noise — or silence. Your call, your mix, only while you climb.
Your Climb
A stats basecamp: 12-week heatmap, best days, and your power zone — the day and hour you do your best work. Guard it like a dragon.
Side quests
1–3 minute break rituals — box breathing, gratitude blitz, brain dump. Complete one and it joins your toolkit for good.
Allyship Circles
Rope up with up to 8 allies. Every Questie adds 100m to a shared weekly mountain. Encrypted end-to-end — we can't see your circle.
Device sync, encrypted
Optional sync via QR code. End-to-end encrypted — the key lives in your link, not on our servers. We couldn't read your data if we wanted to.
Installs like an app
A progressive web app: add it to your phone or desktop, get completion notifications, work offline. No app store required.
the timer and the system
Questies is the rope. Main Character Saga is the climb.
MCS is an identity-first operating system for your life, built on Notion: it helps you choose one Mountain, break it into milestones, and summit it across a 55-day quest. Every working block in that quest is a Questie — and this timer is purpose-built to run them: the sprint, the streak, the focus sounds, the power zone.
Start with whichever you like. The timer is free and always will be. The system is $97, once, when you're ready to point all that focus at something that matters.
questions, answered
Is Questies really free?+
Yes — free forever, by design. No trial, no premium tier, no ads. It's a gift from the maker of Main Character Saga, and it stays that way.
Do I need an account or email?+
No. No account, no email, no signup. Open questies.app and start your first 55-minute Questie immediately.
Where is my data stored?+
On your device. Questies is local-first; optional device sync and Allyship Circles are end-to-end encrypted, so the servers only ever see ciphertext. We couldn't read your data if we wanted to.
Why 55 minutes instead of 25?+
Twenty-five minutes ends right as deep work begins. Fifty-five minutes is long enough to reach real focus and finish meaningful work, short enough to repeat — it's the native unit of the Main Character Saga system.
Does Questies work with Main Character Saga?+
Perfectly — it's the companion timer. MCS structures your 55-day quest in Notion; Questies runs the 55-minute Questies and Slay Day streaks that power it. But Questies works beautifully on its own, no purchase required.
